The Training Volume Question No One is Asking

No one loves someone who cuts corners. If you take that belief to an extreme, you also get the wrong outcome. What you get on the opposite side of cutting corners in training is men and women training too much volume.

The training question we need to be asking more is this:

What is the least amount of training to get the desired training effect?

You don’t have to look hard to find coaches in the industry that overprescribe training. It’s easy. Dare I say it’s lazy to solve all your training problems with more volume.

In the glory days of the CrossFit Games, entire coaching brands emerged that built champions by simply programming more volume than the next guy or gal. The hidden problem that no one acknowledged is that those programmed yielded champions and a countless number of athletes that didn’t make it due to overuse.

How’s that for a tag line?

“If you survive the training, it works!”

The goal isn’t to spend the most amount of time in the gym or doing the most work possible. It’s actually the opposite.
