Rule 1: Never Guess Who Will Stick Around

Here’s a little secret that the coaches will never admit. Okay, maybe it’s just me and I’ll speak for myself. When new students enroll in the gym, I often wonder, “Is this person going to stick around?” Of course, we hope that everyone does, especially the beginners! 

One of my favorite phenomena is when I’m wildly wrong about that. And, trust me, I’m wrong a lot! 

Frankly, the best student in our minds isn’t who you’d think. The dream student is the beginner who doesn’t have much of a relationship with training, but is curious and puts on a role of patience and a willingness to learn. 

Fitness is weird.

It’s one of the most introspective things you can do and there are endless environments rigged to think in scarcity mindset ways. People compare themselves to others, people assume they should be further along or get things quicker, the list is endless!  

If, however, you can hop on a journey of learning, you’ll be blown away at what you can accomplish here. Time and time again, I’ve thought “there is no way this person is going to like this,” and I’m wrong and three years later we’ve got more inside jokes than either of us can count. And, they are completely changed by their movement practice.
