Personally, if you ask my opinion about something I’ll likely respond by saying, “I think.. (something something).” While I’m not a psychotherapist, I’d imagine there’s something to it. I almost never say, “I feel.. (something something).”
You too?
Now, if that’s you, I think (I cannot even begin to lie and tell you I typed “I think on purpose, but if that doesn’t prove my point, I don’t know what does..) there is something here for us to learn. Clearly, I default to the thinking brain rather than the feeling body.
When it comes to people in your life have you considered how you feel after you spend time with them?
As a chronic thinker, I’d benefit from tuning in to what I feel and recently I’ve decided that some things aren’t worth thinking through. The energy exchange with other humans is one of those things, in fact.
I leave spending time with some people feeling like I could run through a brick wall and take on the world. It’s energizing. Others I feel like I could nap the rest of the day. They are energy vampires and maybe that’s all one needs to know.
Whether it’s people, activities, topics of conversation, or any other part of life, maybe try less to think it through and ask instead, “how does this make me feel?”
