For the most part, there’s one quality exercise you can do with a twenty or fourteen pound med ball. Med balls, which is a training tool as old as the concept of gyms altogether, have been a cornerstone for throwing, cross body patterning, and countless other incredible exercises.
They aren’t called Wall Balls, either.
That’s an exercise. And, it’s a (relatively) new exercise standardized by CrossFit in the early 2000s. And, since there were med balls in the gym on the Titanic, I think it’s a disserve to the implement and training in general when gyms have a stockpile of med balls for the sake of the choreography of CrossFit when there is so much to gleen from 4, 6, 8, and ten pound med balls for the countless exercises that borough them into existence.
Look around your gym. If all the med balls weigh twenty or fourteen pounds, you might be in a place that can’t see training beyond the Hyrox and CrossFit logos in front of them.
