The Shortest Book Ever Read Has 745 Pages?

One of my favorite thinkers, Nassim Taleb, has a short book of aphorisms called ‘The Bed of Procrustes’. In it he mentions two heuristics back-to-back that read like the following:

One of the shortest books I’ve read had 745 pages.

The longest book I’ve ever read had 205 pages.

Both of these maxims say a ton individually. They say more together. In the age of social media, everyone is a brand and everyone has a platform with a megaphone. You could argue that we’re saying more than we ever have.

The question is, “Is each word worth more or less today than when we did less talking?”
