This (Unfortunate) Universal Human Truth Has a Solution

Congratulations! You’re a living breathing human and that means you’re afforded one universal truth. Depending on the day you might find this truth as a gift from God. Other days you might clock it as nothing short of tragic.

What is this universal human truth? It’s simply says that:

All human states are fleeting.

That might not feel like it deserves a drum roll, but hear me out. If you are in a pit of despair, this is wonderful news! Your state of despair is temporary and will pass for some other (surely more appealing) state. Beware, though, because if you’re moving and groovin’ in life, this too is due for change.

Don’t shoot the messenger. It’s just the universal human truth.

Now, catch this! There are men and women working hard on the path to enlightenment. The serious ones will go to extremes, like taking a vow of silence, relinquishing their Earthly possessions, or traveling to some monastery at the edge of the Earth. Ultimately, they are after what the Buddha would offer is the true sign of enlightenment, which is to embody non-attachment.

The reason Buddha was so hell bent on this non-attachment jazz? It’s because without it, we are left ping ponging back and forth on the rollercoaster of impermanence. Since you and I and everyone we’ve ever met are living in a world of impermanence, fleeting states, and ebbing emotions, those who know this and can remain unattached to them will navigate human experience best. After all, it was Buddha who said to be human is to suffer.

Suffer less with non-attachment.
