How to Make the Best Steak of Your Life

I cooked a steak the other day that might be the best steak I’d ever had. One of the people at the table agreed and asked, “How’d you cook this? What did you do?”

The question was based on the assumption that there was something remarkable about the preparation, but simply put… there wasn’t

Here are the steps as I see them:

Step 1: Choose a great piece of meat.

Step 2: Season with good salt and freshly ground pepper.

Step 3: Cook it at the right temperature for the right amount of time.

That’s it. Frankly, there’s nothing remarkable or special about that process and therein lies the lesson here.

There seems to be this assumption that fancy methods are better than simple methods, but I find that most people, organizations, and systems do really well with very simple processes that allow the true nature of the subject to come forward.

Deep down we know that beauty isn’t in make-up, great advice isn’t reinventing the wheel, and autotune doesn’t outperform a great voice. If you find yourself over-complicating and justifying it, try simplicity instead.
