The human experience can be tough. After all, didn’t Buddah say that the human experience is suffering? Well, our experience is mostly set up by our “state” and the good news is we can change our state!
Plus, they won’t cost you a penny!
Here are four ways you can change your state right now (without having to be a monk):
- Change Your Location. Move yourself to a different geographical location. No, you don’t need to sell your house, but you can go for a walk or find an environment that feels different than the one you’re in.
- Change Your Breathing. If you’re down and want to be up, do something that forces the depth and frequency of your inhales to be more intense (or you can just breathe that way without actually doing anything!) If you’re up and anxious and want to be calm, do something that forces your exhales to be longer and calmer (or you can just breathe that way without actually doing anything!)
- Change Your Temperature. I prefer taking a hot shower. This isn’t about getting clean, it’s about changing your state! In addition, we’ve all heard about the power of the ice bath.
- Change Your Gaze. Whereas this works both ways, the most common adjustment should be to change a narrow, near focus to an open aperture far-away focus. Find a vista and look broadly if you’ve been head down for a while!
While these seem simple and small, their effects can be profound. The laws of the universe include change as a constant, so don’t you think it’s time you start behaving like it?
