Fifty Percent of Weightlifting is Your Intent

The beauty of weightlifting is that it can’t be done by following steps. It’s done by checking boxes on a list of points of performance. It’s half technique and half attitude.

Imagine telling someone to jump slowly.

It’s like the sound of one hand clapping or something.

What even is that? Weightlifting is only possible with an attitude of intent and that’s a beautiful thing because in a world of inputs and outputs this will ask more of you.

American weightlifting legend Donny Shankle might have said it best when he offered:

“Imagine having a punch that could knock out a rhino in front of you…but you have a piece of thread between your knuckles. Now imagine there is an eye of a needle in front of that beast’s face. You not only have to have the power to put him down…but you have to thread the needle at the same time.”

When it’s a snatch or clean and jerk day, you’ll need to bring your technique, but don’t forget your attitude.
