Is there a more valuable skill than being able to prioritize? When a paramedic arrives on the scene of a fiery car crash to find a victim with a broken finger, collapsed lunge, and a left leg that is currently in flames, there’s no use addressing a broken finger.
We’ve been talking a lot about this skill of triage a lot in our internal coaches development program, Coach’s Prep. Essentially, the efficacy of one’s coaching is correlated to their ability to prioritize the movement faults in the room. Starting with fringe, inconsequential faults won’t help if there are bigger, more grave faults present at the same time.
This is true for all adults in all parts of our lives.
There’s absolutely no use in worrying about your lat engagement in your clean when you don’t sleep well in the same way that picking the right 5K pace is fruitless if your nutrition consists of Fruit Roll Ups.
If your life is an emergency, what should first responders address first?
