Inspirational Spaces, Clutter, and Wealth

There’s a wonderful bit that goes around the internet that is some version of the caption is, “Me criticizing a $6 million dollar house on Zillow with $57 dollars in my checking account.”

Like most jokes, it’s funny because it’s true.

Wealth has nothing to do with style. And, frankly, the case I’m about to make to you is that creating and existing in inspirational (albeit beautiful) spaces is a juice that is always worth the squeeze. That said, you don’t need to be rich to do this.

What you need is to be discerning

It’s not hard to make a $30 million dollar house tacky and cluttered. (SEE: the Michael Jackson documentary showing Neverland Ranch or any footage of the inside of the Playboy mansion or look at how little style our President has with considerable net worth.)

Those iconic properties were brutal looking in the living spaces and, therefore, oddly uninspirational. However, a decluttered space with some curated space, fixtures, and design can yield incredible inspiration, utility, and beauty.

With that in mind, look around your life. Are your living and working spaces giving a return on investment with their design?
