Mastering Anticipation (the Good Kind)

They say the anticipation of a stressful event is often worse than the event itself. But, is the opposite true?

The research says it might be! Humans can experience more positive emotion and well-being by anticipating future positive events than by experience the events themselves.

Chances are you’re doing one, but not the other.

Be honest… you likely dread future stressed events like a pro. But, if you’re like me, you don’t intentionally plan future positive events, so we can enjoy the anticipation between now and then.

The classic example that Tim Ferris loves to reference is the benefit of planning a future vacation to improve the moment. If you want to experience more positive emotion in 2026, it might be time to put something on the calendar.
