Turning a Lightbulb and the Difference Between Suffering & Bliss

If you can’t stand new and exciting corny (but true) words of wisdom, don’t even bother reading on. If you’re like me and believe that everything that’s corny is specifically corny because it’s true (and, therefore, often repeated), then let’s do this!

I’ve been struggling lately.

Considering the state of the union, I imagine you’re life hasn’t felt super breezy, either. Here’s a few words that helped keep my head up recently. Sanjiv Chopra is an under the radar developer with a $1.5 billion dollar real estate portfolio. What makes his story interesting is that he blew his initial millionaire wealth in a few bad business deals and won it all back and more with hard work and dedication.

His story shows the thin line between being down and out and an explosive breakthrough. He recently shared that once and a while he will share a lesson with his kids by unscrewing a light bulb in their room.

If you’ve ever unscrewed a lightbulb while it’s on, you know that the threshold between the bulb being completely off and shining bright is a tiny adjustment. It’s likely less than a 1/16th of a turn to completely change the reality of the moment with light.

With the lightbulb out, Sanjiv would ask his young kids, “How much more effort will it take to go from dark to light?”

It’s so little. Don’t forget that.
