Vulnerability: Who Will Go First?

You want to live in a world where others are vulnerable, I promise you. Without it, you’ll never be told you’re beautiful or loved. Every shopping option will be a big box corporate store. There’d be no music, art, or romance. The list goes on forever and none of it is good.

Vulnerability is the seed for more everything beautiful about humanity.

The reason it isn’t everywhere is simple. Being vulnerable is a risk. There’s always an opportunity for loss, shame, failure, and rejection in a vulnerable act, but on the flip side, it’s the only way we break new ground in development.

A few weeks ago, one of our fellow DEUCE students soft launched a new company and it reminded me of the importance of supporting vulnerable efforts. If you want to live in a world of beauty and success, you’ve got to hold those willing to take a chance in high regard. This means holding up both the winners and the losers, by the way.

This is the only way if you want more of it in the world.

My ask of you is that you support vulnerable best efforts regardless of their outcome. If one future lover, entrepreneur, artist, or musician chooses to play it safe instead of trying again because of a past rejection, we all lose.

Keep going.
