The Single Most Significant, Important Training Tool

Just so it’s not a debate, let’s be clear about something. The barbell is the most significant and important strength training tool in the history of training. That’s a fact.

The question, however, is why

The answer is found in all the reasons why the kettlebell, the modern dumbbell, the sandbag, and every other strength implement isn’t the most significant and important piece of equipment in strength training. Now can you guess why the barbell wins?

The barbell best champions the concept of incremental loading. The unique feature of being able to be perfectly loaded with small exacting increments progressively makes it the landslide winner over all other equipment. Why is that such a critical criteria?

Building strength at the fundamental level is an act of progressively overloading the body. In that way, no tool accomplishes progressive overload better than the barbell.

Now that you know this, there is an obvious call to action for you, the reader. Please take advantage of the signature attribute of the barbell! You’d be surprised at how powerful simply adding more weight than you moved last time (albeit five pounds) can have.

Heave!
