What’s happening at Venice Beach right now? We’ll someone isn’t following directions and not only is it extremely inspiring, it’s beautifully effective. You see, Fashion Week starts today in New York. New York Fasion Week is the industry standard where the who’s who of venders, designers, celebrities, and industry muscle congregate for a show and tell of epic proportions. Everyone in fashion will be there.
Well, except one man.
Tommy Hilfiger will be in Venice Beach instead. He decided to break the rule. Not only his he abstaining from this industry staple, he’s throwing his own fashion spectacle on the opposite coast. For the next few days, our world famous Venice Beach boardwalk tourist destination will be closed to the public, including major roads like the iconic Windward Avenue that runs below the Venice sign. The skate park and the front and center boardwalk zone will also be closed. The area has been transformed into Tommyland, an amusement park themed fashion show, complete with the rides, flashing lights, and carnival regalia.
When the world plays follow the leader, sometimes you need to throw them the middle finger and build a private theme park, right?
Sure, having rules and following them is plenty important. There’s a time and place for that. When you set out to make something of your life or leave a mark with a new message, following the rules is rarely fruitful. After all, it’s being remarkable that characteristically makes industry leaders who they are.
Thank you, Tommy.
