DEUCE Racing Sends Two More to Nationals

With first place finishes at the 2016 Gladiator Gauntlet in the lightweight and middleweight categories respectively, Josh Goldstein and myself have earned spots to Strongman Corporation’s Open Nationals 2016 in Quad City, Iowa. We will now join our own Coach Emily Russak, who punched her ticket recently winning California’s Strongest Woman in Santa Cruz, CA earlier this month.

In addition, DEUCE Racing strongman athlete, Nick King, missed the podium by one point with an incredible fourth place finish in the lightweight division.

Nick King scored 13 reps in :60 on the axel deadlift.

Though we spanned two different weight classes, Josh, Nick, and I competed all day Saturday across five strength events in the sport of strongman. ‘Event 1’ was a last man standing log clean and press event for load. Each of our athletes matched or tied a personal record in the event. ‘Event 2’ was a keg toss event in which we had one minute to throw five kegs ranging from 20-40lbs over a fourteen foot target as quickly as possible. In ‘Event 3,’ we were tasked with max reps in the axel deadlift at 375lbs and 425lbs respectively. The fourth event was a moving event, where athletes had to carry and load a sandbag, keg, and odd rock to a 52″ platform before flipping over a massive steel pole weighing 200 and 300 pounds respectively. In true strongman tradition, the final event was the atlas stones, where we had to load 265 and 300 pounds stones over the bar for max reps in a minute.

The event was made by the obtusely large crowd in support of DEUCE Gym. Both athletes and coaches drove down in support as well as some San Diego locals with DEUCE gear and appreciation came to cheer on the event.

DEUCE Racing isn’t just about fitness events, but this past weekend it was. Congratulations, Nick and Josh. You gentlemen earned the respect of the event with your movement technique and professional demeanor.

Go DEUCE Racing!
