The short answer is I stole it from my college head coach, Rich Hill. He’s one of the winningest living coaches in NCAA history. I stole it from him scheduling team meetings at hyper specific times for the same reason he used the technique.
You’d be surprised how small the margins of victory are at the highest levels of NCAA baseball. As someone who has experienced that intensity first hand, I’ll say this.
Running a small business today has miniscule margins of victory.
When the consequences are high and the competition is steep, details matter. And, when you say a meeting starts at 8:00am, for example, societal norms might translate that to mean the meeting generally starts at the top of the hour.
But, there’s nothing general about what we’re trying to do.
The message starts at 7:51am to bring intensity to the importance of small details that include and transcend punctuality. You can imagine how it might feel to be invited to a meet that starts at 7:51 versus a meeting that starts at 8:00am.
That feeling is where I want to live. That’s what it’s like to be in leadership here at DEUCE Gym.
