
Ever been slapped in the face with wisdom! This won’t be breaking news to some, but that’s how it felt when coach and friend, Carl Paoli, offered to me that the concept of “practice” isn’t doing the reps but the real practice is coming back to the craft.
A meditation practice, then, isn’t the part where your eyes are closed on the pillow, it’s the deciding to meditate again the next day. A golf practice isn’t the part when you’re holding your putter, it’s getting back into the car to head to the driving range again.
Life requires practice, too.
Much of life is making mistakes, so the practice of life then isn’t really doing life so much as it is having a way to come back after our mistakes. We need a strategy to come back to situations, people, and places after the messiness of life’s mistakes happen.
