Life got you feeling in shambles? If you’ve turned on the news or opened your social media feeds, you’re likely feeling like life is tough right now.
Frankly, it’s pretty rugged out there.
But, that’s a low agency perspective and we’re going to choose to do something about it. When big, macro ideas, like the economy or State of the Union, feel crummy, it can easily feel overwhelming because, well, there’s not much significant impact you can make on a grand scale.
That’s why we’re going micro.
You may know by now my favorite mantra from my college hitting coach, head coach of the LSU Tigers, Jay Johnson, who said, “All you can do is all you can do… and, that’s always enough.” Well, since you cannot revive the economy of the American middle class today, it begs the question:
What can you do?
The answer is small things. The other day I went to the dentist and, boy, are they happy to see me every six years. It was a pretty brutal trip (as you can imagine). As someone who generally keeps a pretty grammatically proper iCal with quality capitalization, you can imagine the saving grace it was for me to put “Dentist for Fillings BABBYYYYYYY!” in my calendar.
It’s the small things, people.
Sure, maybe I can’t afford a real vacation. But, riding my bike (on purpose) to a wonderful neighborhood cafe for a world class espresso is a micro action that brought me macro change in my general experience of the world.
I realize I’m not solving the world’s toughest challenges here, but this micro strategy has kept me moving and I hope it does for you too!
