Breathing 101: Shut Your Mouth

Did you hear the news? Influencers everywhere are blasting the newsfeeds about another trend: nasal breathing. We’ve been teaching intentional performance breath, including nasal breathing for almost a decade now with DEUCE Breath + Exposure, but this concept is even old news by those standards. 

Let me tell you about a book titled, “Shut Your Mouth and Save Your Life.” Sounds like an eBook written by an Instagram coach last year, doesn’t it? Want to guess what year it was written? 

Did you guess 1870? 

Crazy, right? It’s written by George Caitlin, who was an American painter and explorer after he observed Native American tribes actively closing the lips of their infants during sleep and rarely breathing out of their mouths. This habit seemed to be in connection with a number of significant health benefits.
