Backstage at the Greek: Freespirits Call a Truce with the Type-A Mafia

It’s almost as if there is a coin toss at your birth. Are you a structureless, free spirit, artist mind or are you a logical-brained, Type-A, list crosser-offer?

I caught a glimpse behind the scenes of an accomplished musician recently who takes great pride in his intuition and the power of freedom in his creative process. It’s really inspiring to see what he’s accomplished and how his approach cuts through the rigidity of everyone’s favorite topic: 36-step morning routines.

When a one logical-brained, Type A, list crosser-offer fan asked him about the structures in his life, he rightfully encouraged the fan to consider areas where she could practice more intuitive, free form ways to live her life that weren’t itemized and controlled for. This was proper advice for a person who needed to balance their free spirited side.

What was funny about seeing this perspective is this gentleman is so motivated for growth, self-aware, and willing to surround himself with quality givers of feedback that he was learning about the importance of, of all things, structure. This was proper advice for a person who needs to balance their logical brained side.

It’s as if the free spirits and the Type-A souls should meet.

We all have a Ying to attend to when our Yang gets too loud. And, sometimes we assume it’s our Kryptonite when it’s really not.

What my musician friend didn’t see was as much as he identifies as a structureless, free spirit, he seems to create all of his songs between 1:30-3:00 long with verses, a chorus, and a bridge.

Seems like structure to me, my dude.
