Physical Freedom: Where Are You Not Free?

There’s one answer that’s my favorite of them all. I’m specifically talking about the third question we ask new students in their Intro Session. More or less curious about the student’s goals the question asks, “Pretend it’s two years from now. What would be different about your life that would signal to you that joining DEUCE was an excellent decision?”

Now, I’m not supposed to have a favorite answer, because frankly our students’ goals are theirs to have. The biggest mistake a coach can make is wanting something for their students that they themselves don’t want.

My favorite answer has a point, though. I love when students have a non-specific answer about freedom. “I just want to be able to do whatever my kids want or if my friends want to go on a hike or a fun run that I can join them..”

BINGO!

Having physical literacy is freedom. I think wanting that freedom is a beautiful thing. So, in a world where many fitness goals tend to be aesthetic-based (which, there’s no problem with those), I’ve got to wonder what would happen if your goals included having more freedom.

To get there, ask yourself, “where am I not free?”
