Who is Using Who? Methods, Imprisonment, and Freedom

Is there a better experience than when someone has a breakthrough? Think about all the folks who have used AA to get sober. Think about all the folks who found a training methodology that helped them change their life. Think about “born-again-Christians” who changed rheir lives with their faith.

Countless lives saved!

I’d argue that the above instances are universally good (and better than the alternative). But, like everything, there are levels to this.

We’ve all met someone who is more CrossFit/sober/Christian than they are a person. You can replace CrossFit, sober, or Christian with just about any tool, belief system, or methodology. Ever met someone who can’t hold a conversation or display emotional intelligence beyond the life changing impact than the Landmark Forum? Lord knows I have..

The question then becomes, “is the tool using you or are you using it?”

Again, this isn’t a call to avoid connection or even commitment to methods. It’s a call for mastery of it so you can be free from it.

If it has you, you’re in prison. If you have it, you’re free.
