White Belt Mentality: A Mindset For Life

The other day I found myself asking Coach Campbell about his weekend. Knowing he went to a Kabuki Education seminar in San Diego, I figured he had some insightful news to share. We reviewed the seminar experience, but something he said caught me. In fact, I stopped him and said, “That’s a blog. Let me make a note in my phone.”

Campbell mentioned that there were several world record holding powerlifters in attendance. I asked him to clarify, “Wait, they were on the staff teaching? Or, in attendance?”

“Oh, yea. They were students taking it with me. It was crazy.”

While at the heart of it I understand the white belt mentality, but there’s something to be underscored that more than a couple different world record holders in powerlifting spent their weekend at a powerlifting seminar.

Logically, it seems that they weren’t at the seminar because they were world record holders, but rather they are world record holders because they were at the seminar. It’s no coincidence that the best are relentless students of their game.
