Longview: the Sign of Prosperity

Ready to feel like you’re living in the lap of luxury? Watch this. If you’ve ever had the ability to think about the long term future, you’re enjoying a definitive luxury with more impact that you might recognize at first blush.

Consider one’s ability to ponder the future as it relates to stress and struggle. When your checking account is low, it feels difficult to see past the next pay period. When you’re struggling with mental health, it’s difficult to see past the next night’s sleep. When your family member needs medical attention, it feels difficult to see past the next off ramp. When you’re taking punches in the face, it feels difficult to see past the next moment. While these examples are placeholders for increasing levels of stress, we’ve all experienced instances where our ability to focus beyond the immediacy of our stressful moment.

You see, this is the plight of humanity. We benefit from awareness of Self. Not all species have this luxury to know and ruminate on the past and ponder the future. It allows us to plan and collaborate in remarkable ways. We also struggle from awareness of Self.

You may not feel it now, but if you’re ever so lucky to have enough safety and management over your stress that you can think about the future, you can be rest assured that you’re in the honey hole of luxury. Times will come where your focus must shrink to the immediate future in a bunker of adversity. In any case, may we look forward to and be grateful for moments where we can hold a longview.
