A Reminder for When Authority Lacks Leadership

Do you have this rare leadership skill? It goes like this…

There are endless possibilities if you can notice systems that, by their own nature, do not work and rebuild them appropriately. Period. For me, leadership and our general understanding of it is one of those broken systems that is ripe for transformation.

The problem begins with a faulty worldview.

The general assumption that leadership is the same as authority is a premise that shoots us in the foot to start with. After all, authority is something that not everyone can have. Second, the very assumption that leadership is reserved for those with authority relinquishes agency and supports deterministic, victimized realities.

At DEUCE, we start with a premise that leadership is simply being accountable to the results. Now, of course, this definition includes men and women with authority, but also transcends that small group. By this definition, leadership is both universal, indivisible, and a choice!

Since we’re all experiencing a gap between our current reality and our idealized reality, we all share the same plight. We believe that leadership is the highest agency, most effective, and most fulfilling option to traverse that gap.

Especially when authority figures lack leadership, let this be your beacon call to make the hard choice yourself to choose to be in leadership.

Carry on.
