‘Hold the Standard’ is Not Crowd Control

“Hold the standard.” We ram it down your throat with hashtags, paint jobs, and t-shirts. While, in many ways, this little motto speaks to something inside each of us to shine our brightest, it’s not a call for conformity.

Holding the standard, of course, means embodying principles and values that exist across the spectrum of humans operating under it, sure, but, the truest expression of yourself isn’t copying someone else. To “hold the standard” is not to fall in line. This is not a crowd control motto. Amongst all the shared principles and values of holding the standard, like integrity, discipline, evolution, and effort, please realize that those three words are truest when you aren’t doing an impersonation. This uniqueness is your style.

Sure, we all ought to be honest, humble, hard working humans, but don’t confuse this with uniformity. Shine bright in these areas but shine brightest with your own style. We don’t celebrate dogma here. There is no one way.

Let your style rage!
