Same Boat, Same Waters

Look, there’s a secret that the folks you admire aren’t telling you. Whether it’s your boss or a coach or a celebrity of some kind, you’re likely looking at the people you admire through a biased lens. You see, the things you enjoy or envy about their abilities, their opportunities, or their accomplishments quite clear to you. In fact, you likely see these more clearly than they do.

The problem is you that don’t see all the dissatisfactions that make their existence quite sobering. The error in thinking their existence is relatively different  than yours is that it creates distance between you and him or her. In reality, the level of sameness between how you experience your life and how these leaders experience their lives would shock you right into action.

The truth of the matter is we’re all in the same boat. This boat is wading in the waters that span the space between where we are and where we want to be. These are the waters of dissatisfaction. Ultimately, dissatisfaction isn’t a thing for the underperformers, it’s the reality we’re all in.

Sail those waters bravely. That’s what the highest performing version of yourself would do.
