(Not) Budgeting Cigarettes and Fitness

A pack-a-day smokers spend an estimated $196 per month (or ~$2300 per year) on cigarettes. Surely, no new smoker contemplates, “Can I afford this?” No, they just do it. In addition, I think we all can agree that smokers don’t intentionally increase their income to accommodate their new lifestyle habit, either. They just do it.

Though, I can’t understand the idea of smoking in the year 2015, I’ve got to say I commend these folks’ ability to keep it simple. Anything can be as complicated as you want to make it. People, subconsciously, love to do that. It’s a good “out” after all.

So, when you or your friends are contemplating whether or not you can afford to exercise or eat healthy, you don’t need to open Quickbooks or create a pros and cons list. Just do it. You’ll figure it out, just like you figure it out with everything else.
