Every single program under the DEUCE Gym umbrella, including our constantly varied GPP program, has assistance exercises. While we’ve been very clear about the importance and purpose in using benchmarks to test and re-test various fitness capacities, these efforts make up a small percentage of our time in the gym.

It’s time to take this one step further. Breaking personal records is the goal in the gym. Finding a new best in the squat, clean, the “Baseline,” or any other benchmark is a sign of positive fitness adaptation. These new PRs not only signify progress, they are required for progress. As a bonus, the physiological advantages to breaking a new record by even one pound is priceless.

Not only should you look to break new records in your main movements and benchmarks, but in the accessory lifts, as well. When is the last time you set a new record in your 3×8 GHD Hip Extension? Do you always use the same band for your high rep pull up workouts?

Stop it. PR everything!
