6/23/13 - The People Matter

Thought experiment time! Let’s pretend you’ve just shown up to the bluffs for class. The workout is five rounds for time of ten deadlifts, fifteen burpees, and a 400m run. Except this time, instead of the usual suspects, all your classmates are unexpected visitors. Your least favorite teacher in high school is your warm up partner, and the other students in class include the coach of the Iceland in the Mighty Ducks: D2 movie and that evil villain from Raiders of the Lost Ark – UGH!

This is going to suck, right?

Well, just this past Saturday at Barbell Club, we all had about as much fun as there’s ever been had at FFOTB. I giggled to myself at the prospect that unmistakably hard training could really be this fun. How? Why? Are we that ridiculous?

I did some thinking on it, and it’s not that ridiculous after all. Trust me, if this Saturday’s Barbell Club consisted of me standing out in the parking lot with my high school religion teacher, the greedy villain from Indiana Jones, and Team Iceland’s coach, I wouldn’t be a happy camper. Instead, our company made the day incredible.

The people matter. The nature of what we do has a unique ability to filter out the riffraff, if you will. What we have instead is a community of like minded people, that make even the most difficult of tasks fun.

Realizing this means you all deserve to give yourself a pat on the back. Thank you for making lifting weights fun.
