To He/She Who Would (but Can’t):
Though I may not know you, I’ve got to say, “I appreciate you.” I appreciate not only you, but all of the things that are getting in the way of your health and fitness. Life is real and the idea of being strong and fit can seem more like fairytale than real life most of the time.
I’m writing you to acknowledge the things that are getting in your way. Let’s be frank. You feel as though you are too inexperienced to train here. You may be too injured to workout, or too lazy. For some of you, you would train but it’s too expensive. Of course, there are combinations of reasons why one can’t train here, as well. Many people, quite honestly, are too scared and battle too many insecurities.
I empathize with every one of these reasons with you. To be honest, it isn’t just me. Every single person at DEUCE Gym can relate to most, if not all, of these burdens.
I know you are feeling that there is a “but” coming your way, and you’re right. Everyone at this gym started scared and insecure. Nearly 100% of students are inexperienced. Some come in quite injured and broken from a past life of sports or worse. No one and I mean no one thinks this is inexpensive. But, they do it anyway.
The only difference is that the students at DEUCE aren’t too scared, poor, inexperienced, injured, or insecure to train, because their desire to be better is just but 1% greater than how scared, poor, inexperienced, injured, or insecure they are. We are lazy. We are scared. We are all of that, but just not more than we are wanting to improve. Do you see the difference?
Here’s the kicker, I’m not even going to tell you that these things aren’t true for them anymore either. DEUCE athletes are still scared and inexperienced. I’m not instantly without insecurities just because I workout at 100 Lincoln Boulevard, either.
This is not a gym for exceptions to the rule. It’s for people. It’s for scared people. It’s for people with bad backs. It’s for broke people that can’t afford to fix their car’s air-conditioning. It’s for people that don’t know how to do pull ups. And, it’s for people that don’t believe in themselves, too.
It’s for you!
