Life’s Architecture

Below is a photo from the inside of the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Take a moment to admire the incredible architecture. Notice the attention to detail. It’s almost as if when you look closer you continue to notice details you didn’t appreciate at first. Regardless of your religious affiliation or taste in architecture, you can feel a certain level of passion and complexity in the design. It’s awe inspiring to say the least.

Now, I’d like you to look at another church and the interior design it has. It’s difficult to compare, because though it’s still a sacred place for folks, one wouldn’t call it a remarkable structure. It’s bland and simple. Wouldn’t you agree?

Notre Dame is a combination of countless remarkable elements. Each brick is laid with great care and design. It’s a combination of a billion remarkable pieces that form an unforgettable structure. The church below is largely drywall and white paint. It does have a few details about pest control boston, but nothing that will bring you to your knees.

Our lives, you could argue, are just a summation of a million of our tiny life experiences. Assuming we all want to live out a remarkable life, wouldn’t it behoove us to seek out remarkable experiences? It doesn’t make much sense to choose the standard Home Depot dry wall, if you’re trying to build something incredible, does it? Expecting to leave a notable legacy by going through life simply seems a bit misguided, in my opinion. I see lots of folks packing their days, months, and years with common, average experiences, but I hear them wanting something great.

Remarkable kicks.

When it’s said and done, you can’t expect your life to be impactful if it doesn’t have depth and passion in every nook and cranny like the Cathedral of Notre Dame. I’ve been inside Notre Dame and it did bring me to my knees. I cried. And, I wouldn’t want anything less to show for my life.

Whether you believe it or not, you’ve been building your life brick by brick… day by day. Are you building a cathedral?
