6/15/14 - Dominate Monday
So, today is Sunday. It’s the greatest day of all for many reasons. One of those reasons is that it’s what I like to call, “the reset button.” It’s a small window in time that I use to relax, and reflect a bit on the past week, and plan the week to come.
Throughout many jobs, and a few decades, I have come to the conclusion that the value of one day away is priceless. I have worked in the service industry for a long time, and Sunday is a possible day for working. For the longest time, I thought it was a day to make more dollars, and later learned how this could be a negative thing. I mean more money was a better thing, but let me explain.
I was a bit younger then and just thought that I could go go go all the time and it wouldn’t matter. This led to me getting worn out, unmotivated, sick, and burnt out on what I was doing. I wasn’t paying attention to myself or what I wanted and overall life had faded out. I wasn’t paying attention to those that were important to me. I wasn’t eating healthy and I wasn’t sleeping well, either. Some Sundays I would only have one hour of actual work and I felt as if I worked all day. The cost of this day spent working was staggering, and when it finally caught up with me I was down for the count.
After well a decade or so of this self abuse, I started to come around. I tend to be a person who learns by messing things up, or taking the rocky road if you will. I began to realize that when I had my rest, when I had exercise, and had eaten well, I felt a ton better, I was in a better mood, and I was way more productive.
This “reset button” for you does not have to be on Sunday, but I would highly encourage you to put this day in your week. It can also just be times during the week that you have for you. It is important that you are the best you in this life. We all need it. Get out a calendar and put these times in before you do anything else. Yes, we all have careers and families and commitments, but you are much better when you have had some reset time.
Let’s use these Sundays, and spend time with those that are important to you. Do things that make you happy. Reflect on the past week a bit and plan a bit for the week to come. Slow down and rest a smidge. Then, when the big bad work week starts, we can all dominate Monday!
How does the week look when you rock Monday’s socks off? It sure is worth a try. I can’t wait to hear how it goes.
