What are you going to do with all that fitness?

A hilarious commercial featuring Chris Spealler, one of the fittest men on Earth, coined the sarcastic inquiry first, but I think there’s something more to it. We must not lose sight of why we come to train in the first place. Unequivocally students come to us to improve their lives. They want to look, feel, and perform better in life. What use is it just being good in the gym?

Once we get in the bubble of the (fake) gym, we often lose sight of this. And, like Kenny Powers made famous, “I don’t just want to be the best at exercising.” The idea is to do the work in training so we can go out in life and play with the kids harder, hike, try a new sport, and survive an encounter with a worthy adversary.

If you’ve lost sight of this important reason for being here, my advice is two fold.

  1. Don’t get so caught up in the workouts. It’s just exercise.
  2. Go out and use your fitness in new ways! You’re far more skilled/capable that you give yourself credit for.

It’s worth noting that our community is leading from the front in this way more so than ever. Dan Estes is taking on his first 10K with a slew of other members of the Nation by his side, for example. The Zoo Crew is leading the charge in the an obstacle race next month, as well. Let’s keep the activity alive!
