[VIDEO] Humor & Performance

You find humor forced into odd places nowadays. And, rightfully so. Who doesn’t like to laugh? Comedies of TV and film are the obvious places to inject your life with humor, but we are such consumers of comedy that it’s not difficult to find Comedy-based Driving Schools, for example. Humor even has taken considerable hold of the social media platform Twitter, with comedy driven fake accounts like @CloydRivers, whose hyperbolic redneck Americana is followed by nearly 400, 000 people.

If Driving School and comedy can match up, is fitness and humor a qualified relationship for collaboration? I’d argue that this nut house has blended human performance and humor as well as any. It’s by no accident either. I’d argue that a loose environment that creates a fertile ground for comedy to grow, is also a good environment for performance gains.

It was my experience in the baseball world that the higher one advanced in the ranks the less serious people took the game. Pranks, shenanigans, and general horsing around seemed to increase from high school to the NCAA level and furthermore in professional baseball. I’d even argue that such gains are noticeable within the various ranks of professional baseball, as well.

Is this real life?

Is this real life?

This environment of barbells and maximal efforts could seemingly be quite rigid, competitive, and brash. To many folks’ delight, however, it really isn’t. I’d bet that one could make a similar observation in other sports and disciplines. Humor may, in fact, be quite the performance enhancing element. What do you think?

Tonight’s 2nd Annual ‘No Man’s Land’ Bowling Night will surely by chalk full of comical moments. See you there!
