Just hours after Sal Masekela watched CrossFit Games veteran, Julie Foucher, tear her Achilles, he would get in his car and drive to a charity basketball game and succumb to the same injury. A social media connection led to tandem support for the next nine months as both rehabbed their bodies through the grueling road to recovery. The Achilles tear is a notoriously challenging recovery process, but both inevitably found success.
Yesterday the two met for a long overdue sit down (and podcast) about the entire experience and the role CrossFit played in their recovery.
It’s been an honor to watch these two choose to view this injury as an opportunity. Amidst all the reasons people give to avoid training, these two were in the gym moving within days of their surgery (which is considered the longest, most substantial to recover from).
