Stay with You

Wandering eyes often scan the room. “What does that bar weigh? Clearly, more than mine…”

The inner dialogue may continue, “Well, I wonder how long has she’s been coming here..” or “He doesn’t look that much stronger than me. What gives?” It’s only human nature to take in our surroundings, and compare when we see others ding similar tasks.

I’m here to tell you that there isn’t a more misguided, irrelevant, guaranteed way to inject your life with unnecessary stress than to compare your performances with others in the gym. I don’t just mean that for weaker athletes, either. The strongest athlete at DEUCE Gym is remarkably unimpressive when compared to almost any strength athlete.

You are your own island. Rock it!

The ONLY area to pour concern and thought is in the personal record (PR). To be clear, there’s no less responsibility here. You either out perform your previous self or you don’t, and that burden is heavy. It’s also the only responsible burden.

Feeling pressure to meet someone else’s performance standards is ridiculous, dare I say moronic. Stay with you.
