On Moderation (and Other Advice)

It’s tricky, right? We see the results from gnarly, full-out efforts. The obsessives become masters and their results speak for themselves. If we sit with the thought experiment long enough, however, we can come up with endless examples where overzealous diets, training efforts, career deep dives, and the like end in a fiery crash of failure. So, what gives?

Is it “everything in moderation” or is it “find what you love and let it kill you”?

The beautiful thing about the dogmatic opinions each camp provides about their beliefs is that we have data. These stances are processes. The intention of these processes is to deliver results.

When considering how to live your life, the answer isn’t found in find which camp is right, it’s in adjusting your processes in order to get the results you need. After all, is there anything worse than a chronic failure with no results declaring how much moderation matters? The opposite is true, as well. Shall we take advice to “go big or go home” from a burn out psychopath with nothing to show for it?

Whichever version of this unsolicited advice you’d like to take doesn’t remove the simple fact that you need results. More importantly, following either plan to the letter to your own detriment seems silly.
