Logical Fallacy: Different Health, Same Life

A while back I talked about what gives when life gets tough. Often times we give up the things we need most like exercise, good food, sleep, etc. It’s an important message, but I failed to mention that there is another side to the story.

I often find that men and women that are struggling to enroll in a healthy life or fitness of some kind often have a stubborn perspective that says, “I want to do this, but I’m not willing to give anything else up.”

People come to me everyday struggling to be fit and healthy because they aren’t willing to look at other areas of their lives. I get it. You want to look better, be stronger, feel good, and all that. But, it’s difficult to be successful when you want to continue to sleep poorly, do the same amount of drugs, have the same amount of money, eat at all the same food, or ignore preexisting limitations and injuries.

Health isn’t a compartment in your life. It is your life and everything in it. In that way, trying to separate what happens in the gym from what happens at the bar, at the grocery store, on the weekends, etc isn’t just a recipe for failure, it’s bad logic.
