8/25/16 - Is That the Worst that Could Happen?

You don’t need to look far to be reminded of the resiliency of humanity. In Venice, we’re in close proximity to men and women living on the street with awful nutrition at best, no nutrition at worst. Many times these individuals operate on no sleep and constant exposure to the elements. Some cases include substance abuse and even mental illness, yet these poor souls continue on.

I often notice a local homeless man, who by all accounts is living a life that is systematically destroying himself, yet he smiles, enjoys weekend, has good days and bad, and if you look at the big picture, quite frankly, he is more like me than he is different.

I think about this weekly. Partly, I think about being fortunate. The other part is it’s an incredible reminder of how powerful of a species we belong to is. You’re so far from being down and out that even what’d we call “down and out” is in your wheel house. You’re a force and it’s going to take more than you can imagine to stop your train.

Live free. After all, what’s the worst that could happen?
