3/26/15 - Front and Center Flaws
We’re lucky to play host to the worldwide phenomenon that is the WODcast Podcast. A leading podcast that takes a fun look at CrossFit and the greater functional fitness community. In yesterday’s episode featuring DEUCE Gym’s, Sal Masekela, the topic of community came up.
CrossFit is notoriously enjoyed by its participants because of the impact of the community. Often times this intangible goes unexplained as something like magic. Co-host, Armen Amirian, took an angle on the topic that I feel has some legs, however.
His argument was that these communities end up being so amazing, in part, because CrossFit is a filter. To paraphrase, Armen drew the conclusion that doing CrossFit is often a daily habit of putting a mirror in from of your flaws for you to stare at head on, and no one is exempt.
In that way, the kinds of people that can handle that level of honesty are generally easy to like. Folks with bad attitudes or struggle with the proximity to their own weakness find their way out and don’t stay long.
What’s your experience with the built in filter of CrossFit? Do you think it’s a quality-person-finder?
