9/30/15 - Fall Strength Challenge – Chapter 4

How are you doing? Do you feel the progress? Have you been getting assistance work in before and after class? Do you have a plan in place?

We have four weeks left. Has anything in your training changed since day one? The great thing about strength training is, if you spend time putting in the work, you will see results. It doesn’t show up overnight, but it will if your willing to put the time in.

There are many ways to get gains in strength. One of them has to do with the mental connection between your body and the lift. The first time you did a back squat felt a lot different than the tenth time you did one. A lot of this just came from practice, knowing where and how to move. Knowing that you should push your hips back to start, instead of dropping your knees forward. In this case, there hasn’t been enough time for major strength gains, but the mental game has changed a lot. Don’t underestimate the power of your mind in your lifting. Seeing the lift in your mind can be very effective.

Another major area for improvement is in strength. This one seems a bit more obvious. It also comes from practice. Putting time in with the barbell is the ticket here. This does not include only assistance work, it is also from doing the lift, and various versions of the lift. Just spend some more time doing the thing.

Check in with where you are at. Use your coaches. There is something powerful to owning the position you are in and taking a stand to get stronger. It’s your game!
