6/15/15 - Can You Get Lucky, Lose, and Start Again?

I’m not into poetry. I do have a favorite poem, though. Rudyard Kipling’s “If” should be mandatory reading, if you ask me. Rather than have you read the whole thing. Consider this:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;

Extremes are often a great place to test things. In the aforementioned segment of Kipling’s “If,” what we’re reading is about is a shining example of extreme courage and honor. This is a person with poise amidst adversity. We’re reading about a master of the moment.

How manageable is everyday life if you’re able to strike it lucky, only to lose it all, and have the ability to keep your emotion at bay to start again?
