Breath: The Keys to the Castle

Take a deep breath slow in through your nose. Hold it. Then, try to exhale even slower. Wait. Now, inhale again slowly. Hold it. Exhale as slow as you can.

That is your breath.

No, I’m not putting you through a virtual yoga routine, I’m making a point. If you followed my lead just a second ago, you, most literally, controlled your breath. The unique thing about our breath is that we can control it, but it’s otherwise automatic. You’ll breathe dozens of times just reading this blog without even knowing it. Of course, our breath is automatic, in part, because it’s necessary to live. It’s this automatic vs. controlled nature of our breath that makes it the center of virtually every venture into deeper consciousness, from yoga and martial arts to visualization and meditation.

The simple fact that we can man the controls of this autopilot breathing system we have, gives us the keys to the castle. By tapping in to your breath, life can come to a screeching halt at any moment. The chaos and stress of thoughts in the past or about the future can all be controlled with your breath.

Need access to the “here” and “now?” Find your breath.
