A State of Mind

Things aren’t quite right if the mood is off, wouldn’t you agree? Imagine sitting down for a life insurance meeting at Chuck-E-Cheese or enjoying an herb crusted sea bass prepared by an award winning chef by candle light to the sounds of max volume Slayer coming out of the speakers. Sure, even in the bedroom the mood is critical.. but bring your mind back to fitness for a second.

Most literally, the state of your mind is critical for the high performance tasks we’re asking you to perform. If you’re approaching a one rep max effort on the barbell and the inside of your mind looks like happy hour at Cabo Cantina, you’re leaking performance.

Now, this isn’t to say you’ve got to be a Zen Master of awkward silence and thousand yard stares for the entire hour that we are in class. Like the old adage encourages so perfectly, “there is a time and place for everything.” Though this is a skill that may take some practice, an athlete ought to have fun and enjoy his/her classmates throughout class yet have access to a switch when it comes time to work.

The atmosphere of your mind could be the last frontier of your performance development. Set the tone.
