6/13/19 - When Fear Misleads

When high performers are asked about their most critical performances, they all admit they experience some emotion of fear or anxiousness. Base jumpers experience fear before the jump. Your favorite startup founders experienced fear taking the plunge on their business. And, your favorite basketball players are anxious before a playoff game. Hell, I once asked Kelly Slater about sharks and it was a surprise to me that in many event destinations he actually thinks about being attacked by a shark. The greatest of all time is trying to perform while managing a fear of sharks!

Here’s a mental experiment worth considering. If the best performers in the world experience fear, then is the fact that you experience fear a good reason to not take your plunge?

By this logic, being afraid is the most normal thing you can be. Go for it!
