3/1/17 - Phoning a Friend (for Fitness)

You all know by now that motivation isn’t a sustainable resource, right? Sure, you might need it to get in the door, but it won’t last forever. Even the most motivated people on the planet enjoy flux in their motivation reserves.

As we’ve discussed before, we can create skills and strategies for the times when motivation is low (SEE: discipline). While creating discipline, or the habit to put out without the presence of motivation, is a hard earned skill that many of us have yet to master, let’s consider the numbers for a second. One hundred percent of the people reading this, everyone of your classmates, and (wait for it) even your coach has strong moments of relative motivational weakness. If we can accept that, we can recognize a remarkable opportunity.

Right now, as you’re reading this, one of your classmates is on the fence about training today. They could go either way, and without any specific driver in either direction we know the odds shift quickly to the path or least resistance and them not coming.

Connect!

Text a classmate or ping them on Facebook right now. Invite them to train with you today, because we all need it at some point, right? Hell, enrolling a buddy pushes you. This, too, is a strategy to build a resistance against lows in motivation. We all want a push partner now and again, so let that knowledge give you freedom to act on it.
