1/15/16 - The WLC Keeps Me Honest

For short bursts of time I get out of touch and ungrateful for a mindset that allows for easy, sustainable health. Squatting heavy, “ass-to-grass,” sprinting, pushing, and pulling, eating real food, and an honest evaluation of myself will be a part of my life until perpetuity. I don’t count calories, obsess over food, or stress about the gym. Most attempting to be healthy today will report the opposite.

It takes being around people that aren’t there yet sometimes for me to appreciate this unfortunately. It is learning perspectives like the idea that morning cereal isn’t a thing and burning calories isn’t the hallmark of fitness that make it easy. Until it’s easy, however, being fit is hard especially when you don’t know what you don’t know.

I’m playing the Whole Life Challenge because feedback is key and it helps the people close to me learn what they don’t know. As evolved as I may think my lifestyle is, we’re all able to lie to ourselves. Even folks willing to report that they could “eat a little cleaner” or “can’t give up my lattes” are rarely clear on reality. These “lies” unchecked turn into a false perspective that turns into a place that’s hard to come back from.

We can start to think it’s normal to be insulin resistant, overweight, and incapable of rolling out of bed and running two miles, deadlifting your bodyweight, or jumping from place to place. It isn’t. Period. And, if you disagree begin reading from the top.

I want to invite you all (and those you love, for that matter) to get some feedback with me for the next eight weeks. Let’s see what is really happening in our life. Is it better than we thought? Worse? In either case, you’ll gather some skills to keep you out of your grave longer and who’s not down for that?

Want to play? SIGN UP here. The best part is you don’t need to be here to participate. If you’re local, things kick off Saturday at 10AM for the baseline workout and FREE spine checks from Dr. Jeremy Brook DC.
